Why Choose

Hope Threads?

As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
— John 13:34

Based on 2017 data, 68.5 million people worldwide are currently forcibly displaced as a result of persecution, conflict, or generalized violence, with 25.4 million of them being refugees. Refugees are not asylum seekers or undocumented immigrants. They enter the United States legally with the right to get a job, enroll in school, and eventually apply for U.S. citizenship. Many of these refugee women have been resettled in the triangle area -- eager and capable of work but facing insurmountable challenges to do so.

Hope Threads was launched in July of 2018 by a group of women in Raleigh, NC with the goal of helping local refugee women acquire the skills they need to provide for their families. As an educational workforce program, these women are learning new skills and building on their existing expertise to create hand crafted items. They are taught to sew in a business environment and earn fair wages for their work in return. Your purchase provides the funds to pay these women fairly for their work as they strive to provide a dependable income for their families.

Some of the challenges these refugee women face include speaking English and transportation. We wish you could hear the laughter in the sewing room, as we struggle to communicate with one another, in an effort to hone language and sewing skills. Their children are lovingly cared for in a robust children’s program as they learn.

Our product team designs modern, functional items that highlight the skills of these women, without extraordinary labor time to produce.

We have expanded our baby product line to include multi-purpose nursing covers! The same nursing cover also functions as a car seat cover and to minimize mess and germ exposure around your baby while in the high chair or shopping cart. It is incredibly soft, stretchy, and is designed for full coverage on the bottom and a smaller opening at the top with enough space to see your sweet baby while nursing. And our covers are modern and neutral enough to leave around your neck as an infinity scarf!

We have also ventured beyond baby items and have launched our first women’s jewelry item—leather earrings! They are modern, lightweight, versatile, and available in metallic gold, black matte, or as a set. Matches darling with the gold baby headbands and girls’ gold bows...just saying!

Our modern, multi-sensory, crinkle teething toy provides gentle relief for sore baby and toddler gums. Choose from three organic wooden toy options: classic ring, elephant, or bird. Perfectly sized for babies to independently hold. Fabric may be removed, wet, and put in the freezer for extra soothing power! Select one of many patterns to complement your bib choice.

Darling bows are available with a comfortable clip or stylish headband!
